Dane Cook and Jessica Alba in a movie about sex. Seems like there’s no reason to not go out and see this movie. And there really isnt, as long as you don’t care about the story.
The movie starts out with a group of kids playing spin the bottle. When you take a glance at all the characters around the room, you can pretty much predict something is going to go wrong when it’s Charlie’s turn to spin. Eventually, Charlie gets hexed by a goth girl having “love fall all around him” but not actually getting the love for himself. This is the part of the movie where the story could kill the whole movie for some people. The story moves on to 20 years later when Charlie finds out that all the girls that had sex with him found their match AFTER having sex with him. Charlie eventually finds a girl he actually likes and is afraid to have sex with her because of this myth. He eventually does have sex and then must find a way to make Jessica Alba’s character not find another man.
The pacing of this movie was really good up until the ending where it felt a little slow. This is mainly because all the funny parts stopped at the end and the movie had to go into “romantic comedy cliche” mode. It’s not for too long, but you notice it. The acting was also very good. Dane Cook and Jessica Alba give a good performance. There were some jokes in there that were almost good as some of the Superbad ones. I do have 1 complaint about Jessica Alba though. Of all the nameless topless woman you see in the movie, Jessica Alba is the only one you don’t see fully nude ![]()
I’ve seen the reviews for this movie [03% on Rotten Tomatoes] and I was a little reluctant when my friends wanted to go see it today, but it was worth the price of admission. If you’re into the Superbad type movies, then you should definitely go see this one. It might not offer you a great story but you’ll sure get some good laughs out of it.
4/5 Stars
One more thing to close up this review.. This movie should win an award for most sex scenes. I swear, there’s a montage of Dane Cook just bangin all these nameless woman because they’re so desperate to find a man. ![]()
This is a movie directed by Akiva Schaffer. As far as I know he is a writer for Saturdaynightlive and has not done much more than that.
The casting for the movie did have some big name which included Sissy Spacek and Ian McShane (Deadwood) Will Arnet and Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers). The lead was by an actor named Andy Samburg (Rod Kimble) and his gang which included Jamora Taccone (Kevin Powell), Danny R. McBride (Rico) and Bill Hader (Dave). I believe Bill Hader to be one of the strong up and coming screen comedians.
True, it’s not an Oscar winner, nor is it a blockbuster, but what saves this cult classic from the bargain bin that time forgot is the comedy. In many Hollywood comedies today, the problem is, the’re not funny. They have a couple laughs here and there, but don’t really get you giggling after it’s over. Thank god for UHF. This movie’s plot is cookie cutter, but who cares? The plot is just a set up for the jokes, and this film pretty much is one big joke. And i mean that in the best way possible. If you’re sick of modern comedies, or love them and need to be reminded what REAL comedy is, see this movie,…NOW. Why are you still sitting here? Go, add it to your Netflix Queue, or run to the nearest Blockbuster, or whatever. Just do youself a favor,… watch UHF
I have watched the simpsons for along time and I have liked every eposide I have seen. And that is alot. I know alot of the simpsons movies pertty well. I haven’t been able to see the one in the movie theaters yet but want to. Now that i have a child I wouldn’t mind her watching them either. Now Harry Potter i have seen every movie and I have all the movies except this last one that was in theaters. I really like the last one, that is my favorite of all the movies. It has more action. and seeing the movies and how they grew up in the film was real cool. Its kinda like growing up with them.
